Chasetown have a habit of late goals against us at their place, but this time, Celtic held on to get a draw after a late equaliser.

Ruben Jerome started the afternoon with an excellent cross for Lewis Rawsthorn arriving, but Joel Kettle dipped in ahead of Rawsthorn, nodding the ball just past his own post. Josh Granity got his head on the corner, but could do little with it, and the home team broke from the goal kick, discovering a large exploitable gap on their left. Luke Hearsey had all the time in the world to pick out his cross, low and into the mix where Kyle Moseley opened the scoring with a scuffed shot. Hearsey tried himself a moment later, this time cutting in from the wing, but Charlie Monks made a decent stop as Chasetown ran rampant down Celtic’s right. Moseley got onto another Hearsey cross, but this time Monks made the stop as the tide turned. Jerome headed wide, and Fortune Maphosa headed over from an uncleared corner, before Jack Irlam took a mistake by Chasetown’s right-back, he switched play to Laim Tongue on the far side. He took it past his marker and put in a low cross to the danger area. Jerome slid in and put Celtic level. Two glorious chances went begging for Celtic, with Rawsthorn and Jerome both narrowly off target as the interval beckoned. There was just time for Hearsey to try a dramatic shot, but Monks athletically tipped it over.

On a number of occasions Celtic’s opposition have caught them napping on the restart, but this time, the shoe was on the other foot. Monks spread the ball out to Jerome. Instant control, pulled back to Rawsthorn who volleyed his shot into the bottom corner with the defence and Anthony Nunez in goal all static. Jerome twice went agonizingly close, and Nunez watched Tongue’s half volley from twenty-five yards all the way. Celtic looked well on top, but the losses of Fortune Maphosa and Mike Koral to knocks upset the backline flow, whilst a knock to Jerome upset the forward outlet. Shored up the defence creaked under increasing Chasetown pressure, and it told with five minutes to go when Hearsey again had time and space on the left wing, he drilled the ball to the neat post where Matthew Funge arrived, to stick the outside of his boot on it, and lift it over Monks. Nine times in ten, they fly over, this time it flew in. Despite an eternity of stoppage time, neither team could break down the other’s defence, and shared the points.
